The Night of Science brings together people from different disciplines, scientific organisations, and everyone interested in science and research. The event was first organised in 2003 and has been held annually since 2018. Over the years, it has grown into a much-loved and eagerly anticipated event.
The Night of Science is coordinated by the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies (TSV), which brings together scientific societies and the wider research community. One of the cornerstones of TSV’s strategy is promoting everyone’s right to reliable research-based knowledge and making scientific knowledge accessible in society.
The Night of Science is made possible by dozens of scientific and cultural organisations that are responsible for organising the programme and events. While the organisers vary from year to year, many organisations have been involved for a long time. Past organisers have included learned societies, research institutes, museums and other organisations working to make research and knowledge accessible to the public.
Every other year, the Night of Science takes place alongside Science Forum. The two sister events complement one another and together offer opportunities to engage with research, ideas and reliable research-based knowledge from a wide range of disciplines.
Science Forum brings together researchers, experts and people interested in science and research at the University of Helsinki Main Building and Think Corner.
The visual identity of the Night of Science is designed by graphic designer and illustrator Lille Santanen. It is based on Syli (2024), a painting by artist Eliina Hurtig. The Science Forum shares the visual identity with the Night of Science.

You can join the Night of Science organisers' mailing list if you are interested in organising an event as part of the Night of Science. Subscribers receive updates by email on the planning and organisation of the Night of Science, as well as an invitation to the annual organisers' meeting.
